A few weeks ago I attended an entrepreneurial workshop for bloggers who are interested in turning their blogs into a business. The event was organised by Joe Blogs Blogger Network in association with Hiscox Insurance and held at a stunning venue in Manchester, the Victoria Warehouse which is a large industrial space used for all sorts of different events. It has a great, interior – very cool.
It’s always a bit nerve-racking attending an event when you don’t know who the other people are, but I soon got chatting to some lovely bloggers including Nadine who blogs at JuggleMum and was very easy to chat to. We had quite a bit in common and we said it would therefore be nice to collaborate on something in the future. I also got to know Bryony from Breakfast at Bryony’s who had attended quite a few bloggers events before and I also met Lily from Joli House who designs and makes her own knitwear creations. She was lovely too and we’ve actually been in touch since the event to work on something together which is quite exciting and which we’re both keen to share soon – so watch this space!
It was a bit of a shame I didn’t get to chat to everyone as it seemed they all had interesting ventures either in the pipeline or underway, ranging from health and fitness to weddings and everything in between, but of course we couldn’t mingle all day and the board room beckoned. Here we are, soaking up all the advice and inspiration:
Anick from the Start Up Academy gave a very interesting and motivating talk about turning our ideas into a commercial success, he covered how to spot opportunities and work smart, avoiding procrastination, being productive and prioritising tasks. He also outlined the benefits of running a limited company and I feel I learned a lot from his session. He was followed later in the day by freelance journalist Helen Nugent who is also the founder of the popular blog and online magazine, Northern Soul. Helen had a lot of experience to share about setting up a blog or online business, networking and being creative with your marketing strategies which I found really useful. If you wanted to see a bit more about the key topics both speakers covered, have a read here.
I think the bloggers workshop ticked all the boxes and I’m sure everyone left feeling as inspired as I did. It certainly got me thinking about a lot of stuff and some of the advice I have put into action!
Thanks to Joe Blogs and Hiscox for putting on such a great event.
