My blogging highlights 2013

As we are fast approaching 2014, I’ve had a little look through some of my posts this past year, to remember some of the best bits for Tidy Away Today.

At the start of the year we made over our conservatory as a playroom for the boys.

Just recently, however, we have turned the front room into their play room and claimed the conservatory as our dining space.  We have also swapped bedrooms around, so I will blog about all our room switch ups in the new year.

Also early on in 2013 I was busy painting all sorts of furniture.

I even even got my first commission!  As the year went on, I’ve had less time for furniture makeovers, but I’m still keen to do more and in fact I have one little project I’ll be sharing soon.

I had a go at making some pallet-style art for the boys and intend to try another one, as there are more boards up in the loft waiting to be used.

I even mixed up some homemade chalkpaint to give this chest of drawers its ‘sugared almond’ facelift.

Tidy Away Today got a mention in the Sunday Mirror in February, in an article about crafty bloggers.  After that, I started to get opportunities to review practical and stylish home products, from cleaning aids to bedding, as well as being commissioned to write some posts.

I attempted to tackle the annoying clutter hotspots in our house; some solutions have worked out, others have failed and I intend to concentrate a lot more on home organising in 2014.

I have hosted some giveaways during the year which was fun and in May I was involved in the Pin It Forward campaign, where Pinterest came to the UK, which saw a big rise in my Pinterest followers.

Tidy Away Today was shortlisted and then highly commended in the Cosmo Blog Awards 2013, which took place in October.

The awards night was great and I got to meet some of the talented people behind the blogs I admire; Jen at Love Chic Living, Caroline at Patchwork Harmony, Jenny at The Treasure Hunter and Sam at Design Lovers Blog.  The Ibis London Blackfriars hotel welcomed me as a guest to stay in London for the awards night in return for reviewing their hotel, which was wonderful!

Even more recently I was invited to the Grand Designs Live show, as well as a photo shoot with DFS where I had a professional photographer and stylist to assist with a room makeover of my own design, which was all very exciting!

My family has also enjoyed some days out as a result of my blogging, so I count myself lucky with the opportunities that have come my way in 2013.  Blogging has also assisted in me securing some freelance work, including as Editor for the utterly gorgeous online home boutique, Rose & Grey, which both satisfies and inspires my love of home interiors.

Has 2013 been a good year for you?  I hope so.  I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited to see what 2014 will bring and I have sooo many home projects planned, from installing a new front door and a hall/stairs re-do, to a bathroom refresh on a budget and bedroom makeovers in between – and that’s just for starters!

A Happy New Year and my best wishes to you and yours – and thank you for reading and supporting Tidy Away Today during 2013.
