4 Reasons to Style your Home with a Sheepskin Rug in our ‘Hygge’ Giveaway

If you enjoy browsing through home interiors magazines or scrolling through style blogs and Pinterest, you can’t have failed to spot how popular a trend sheepskin rugs are in the home.  Adding style and cosiness, they are ideal for layering up the living room or bedroom, particularly in this chilly weather – ideal for draping over the back of a chair or used as a rug for extra warmth and comfort underfoot.

There are lots of sheepskin rugs around with varying prices and quality, too, making it difficult to know quite where to shop.  You may also have a question about how ethically produced they are if the source is unknown.  That’s one reason I was happy to partner with Hide Rugs recently.  A small family run business that prides itself on excellent customer service and sourcing the best quality animal skins which, like leather goods, are a by-product of the meat industry.

Hide Rugs kindly sent me a sheepskin rug to see the quality up close and style it in my home.  It’s a luxury curly Grey Gotland Sheepskin rug – an ancient Swedish Breed famous for its extremely high quality wool.  Thick and springy to the touch, it adds a sumptuous and cosy extra layer to our grey sofa, with the colours toning in perfectly.  These hides are all naturally eco friendly, with no harsh chemicals, bleaches or dyes used in the processing.  Each one is unique, which is why Hide Rugs like to photograph every individual rug to ensure you can see what you are getting and feel 100% happy with your choice.

The rugs are sent out with free next working day delivery to the UK mainland and are very easy to maintain – simply shake them outside and hang to air which will eliminate any natural smells.   However, I did not find ours to be particularly pungent and have absolutely loved styling our home with it this week, for four main reasons:

The ‘Hygge’ Factor

Sheepskin on chair
Nothing sums up that feeling of Scandi homeliness quite like a sheepskin rug draped on a chair or placed in front of a roaring fire.  This season it’s all about hygge!

Let’s face it, these hides look fabulous anywhere, on the floor as a rug, draped over a bench, on an armchair, sofa or bed.  I know I’ll be moving ours around from room to room.

On Trend

Gotland Sheepskin RugIf you love decorating your rooms with the latest trends you should definitely invest in a hide – or maybe even two!  The Scandi trend is not going anywhere, anytime soon, so why not bring a bit of gorgeous Scandinavian style to your home?

Eco Friendly

Knowing that the hides are not treated with harsh chemicals or dyes and are a bi-product that won’t go to waste is good to know, especially in this era when we ought to try and be more resourceful, eco aware and less of a throwaway society.
