Bedroom Refresh with Pantone Colour of the Year 2016
A new year heralds a new start in all areas of our lives. For the home, it’s fun to plan some updates to freshen things up. Well, you may have heard or seen that the ‘Pantone Color Institute’ has announced not one, but two colours of the year for 2016. The chosen hues are Rose Quartz and Serenity, a pairing of soft, blushy pink and gentle lilac-blue that complement each other beautifully.
Feminine and delicate, they are not necessarily colours I would normally be drawn to for the home. So I was intrigued to see if I could introduce them into one of our rooms. Working with Wayfair, we chose some items from their extensive ranges that capture the essence of Rose Quartz and Serenity. I thought our bedroom would be a good place to try these tones with a little style update, so these are the homeware items I used:
The bed is the focal point of any bedroom – it certainly is in ours as it is a Super King size bed, so hard to ignore. Because it is the main thing you notice, I love to dress it with gorgeous bedding and the Petite Fleur Duvet Set by House Additions is perfect because it has that fine, boutique hotel quality in my favourite bedding colour of white, but with a twist – the edges of the 200 thread count duvet and pillowcases feature a pretty, blush pink and subtle floral border with echoes of that rose quartz hue. The scatter cushion covers give just enough of an accent to the bed, lending it a tranquil and calm feel and who can resist a bed throw? I can’t get enough of throws in our home, so this lovely, textured blue Shruti Meenu blanket is ideal as we head towards spring – it’s much lighter than a woollen blanket and is a nice touch to add a little more of that Serenity vibe.
The final piece of homeware to complete this update of our bed area is a piece of wall art. We were truly lacking a feature above our bed, so when I saw the gorgeous March Hare canvas with its hints of soft pink and gentle blue I thought it would make a lovely accent that would also pull the colours together nicely.
What do you think? Hopefully it has made you consider bringing Rose Quartz and Serenity into your home. I think little touches of both shades could work beautifully in a Scandinavian style room with light wood and white furniture, or a child’s bedroom or baby’s nursery.
It would also be simple to add pink and blue hues to a bathroom with a new pastel roller blind, pink and blue towels, plus pretty soaps and bath products for a quick re-fresh.
Even a kitchen could use an injection of Rose Quartz/Serenity, especially with all the popular vintage inspired florals that already feature pinks and blues, a la Cath Kidston – all it would take is some new tea towels, a table cloth and pastel-coloured tea and coffee canisters to add some Pantone-inspired charm. You might even fancy painting a feature wall in one or both of the colours.
I hope this feature has inspired you a little – there are many pieces of homeware over at Wayfair to help you capture the Pantone colour of the year pairing, so why not check out their own inspiration board for further ideas?
