When you want instant style, but don’t have a big budget to play with, where do you go? When TJ Hughes challenged me to come up with a affordable yet stylish room scheme using some of their homewares, I imagined a student or young person just starting out in their first place. What sort of space would they have to work with? Probably somewhere compact – perhaps even only one room – where they would have to eat sleep and work. If they needed pretty much everything from scratch to set up home, then their budget really would be stretched to the max and have to work for them.
A sofa bed is the key to one room living; team it with a ‘bed in a bag’ bedding and you are good to go easily from day to night. Extra seating for friends, that can double up as storage – like the above cube at a bargain priced £19.99 – is a winner and the space deserves to be cosied up with a rug and on trend, yet affordable cushions and throws.
A lap top work station seems like a genius idea for a small space, and having chosen a smart black pair of curtains from the great range of stylish curtains and an attractive light fitting, which looks more expensive than it’s price tag of £16.99, the room is complete. In fact, everything in this room set comes in at under £300, which I think is great value considering there is furniture included, and it looks pretty smart and stylish, too.
What do you think, did I meet the brief of combining budget with style?
