Handy and Unusual Cleaning Tips for 2016

baking-soda-768950_640Cleaning can often be a daunting task, especially if it is something you have been trying to put off for a while. There are always parts of your home that you dread coming round to clean, either because it’s tricky or maybe you’re just trying to clean up after you’ve had a lot of guests round!

Either way, it’s the new year and we bet you’re working on sprucing up your home now that the festive period is well behind us, even if you really don’t want to. We can all get a bit frustrated at the marks and stains that refuse to disappear but there are a whole host of weird and wonderful ideas to clean the harder areas of your house, often using products that you may already have around the house.  Read on for our top cleaning tips!

Rejuvenate your towels

You can’t beat a fluffy, thick towel when you’ve been in the shower, but what if you’ve noticed that your towels have seen better days? There’s a simple remedy to bring some life back to your towels. Wash them in hot water and 1-2 cups of vinegar to get rid of any lingering odours that might have developed. Likewise, if you have just bought new towels, wash them for the first time with vinegar, as well as your detergent, to give them an extra helping hand in keeping their colour.

Another handy trick involving towels is to help your laundry dry quicker. If you’re in a bit of hurry, throw in a dry bath towel with your laundry and you should see that it dries a lot quicker than normal!

Get rid of water rings on wood

If you’ve recently had guests over, or your kids constantly forget to use a coaster on your new dining table, you don’t need to panic about your tables or surfaces being ruined. There is more than one solution you could try to eradicate this problem.

Mixing baking soda and water and use a cloth to rub over it, you’ll soon find that it disappears very easily! Likewise, if you apply Vaseline to the mark, it should disappear when left overnight and wiped away the next morning. If you need a stronger cleaning solution, mix equal parts of white toothpaste and baking soda to rub over it, using polish to finish it off afterwards!

Troublesome mirrors and windows

Mirrors can often be a nightmare to clean, leaving smear marks and sometimes looking worse than in the first place. However, if you use newspaper and vinegar you could be surprised by the shine that’s left! Apply vinegar to the area you want to clean and use a sheet of newspaper to rub and buff clean!

Cleaning your microwave

Your microwave is often one of the most annoying appliances to clean; whether you use it frequently or barely ever, you’d be surprised how dirty they can get from heating up and cooking food every once in a while. Due to its shape, it can be difficult to reach each corner and side but hopefully this tip should help somewhat. Simply put a cup of boiling water with a half cup of lemon juice into a bowl in your microwave, put the microwave on high for 30 seconds and remove the bowl. You should find once you wipe inside, any food or other dirt comes off a lot easier!

Save burnt pans from being thrown away

If you’ve got a pan that is covered in burnt stains, don’t throw it away and buy a new one. There are things you can do to help get rid of them, leaving your pans in a much better condition. Using own-brand cola, fill your burnt-on stained pan with it and bring it to the boil. Stir for a while, then wash away! Hopefully the stains have all gone and your pan is usable again.

Of course, when it comes to cleaning your home, you can’t beat having a stock of cleaning products under your sink to make sure everything is sparkling. System Hygiene provide everything you could need for your home or workplace.
