I recently took a trip to the Clas Ohlson store in Manchester. Having only browsed this Swedish homeware brand online before, I was pleasantly surprised on my visit. In case you were under the impression they only stock unsexy, practical items like plug sockets, you’d be wrong. They do some nice lines in homeware that are cool and on-trend and really reasonably priced.
Always drawn to storage items, I couldn’t resist picking up a few pieces – as well as couple of light fittings for our bedroom. I have been coveting filament bulbs on fabric cables for ages now, but all the ones I’ve seen so far have needed to be wired in, so the fact that Clas Ohlson do some lamp holders with a plug on the end is brilliant! Just what I wanted as bedside lamps, since we don’t have space for table lamps. They are super cheap at £9.99 for each fitting, too, and come in a choice of steel, brass or copper finishes.
Simply add a couple of oversized bulbs and they make a fantastic feature, don’t you agree?
Clas Ohlson do some great rack wall arms that match the lamps, but I had already bought a couple of wooden brackets so used those in our room instead.
Storage-wise, I picked up some trendy and affordable baskets – you can never have too many! A deep sided, black coated wire basket is now holding loo rolls…
The large circular grey wire basket below with black wooden handles is very Scandi-style; I’ve found it’s perfect in my boys’ bedroom to store soft toys but you could toss in blankets, magazines, logs for the fire. And it’s just £14.99.
The lovely square storage box is great for all sorts of different things, including cats apparently!
Pixie couldn’t resist taking a cat nap in it. I love the ombre effect and the little ‘storage’ tag; they look really smart, don’t they? Great in a bookcase or on any shelf and only £5.99.
The matching round grey ‘dip dye’ fabric basket (£8.99) is also super cute and great for bedside bits and bobs like a magazine and hand cream.
Finally, a little scented candle for the bedroom with a gorgeous lavender fragrance was a little treat I couldn’t resist.
So there you go, if you have a Clas Ohlson store near you, do pop in – there’s great garden stuff, office supplies, camping equipment, cool kitchenware, decorative accessories for the home and lots more. If you don’t have a store nearby you can also shop for all these items online.
