We are just about managing to get through the start of the school summer holidays, trying to keep three boys aged 6, 8 and 12 happy, harmonious and occupied – plus carrying on with our work and blogging – not always easy!
So we are really looking forward to a few days away in August to break up the long holiday. I’m always interested in what other families do and where they go for days out or for longer breaks during the hols – it gives us ideas for the future. We have some parties, holiday clubs, visits to the park, staying with grandparents, friends for tea and activity days out planned, but we are really excited about the prospect of spending a couple of days in the lovely Cotswolds, where we have been invited to stay at the beautiful Matalan Home – more on that in a future blog!
Since we are going to be travelling southwards for this, I recently started to wonder about whether we should try and squeeze in a few more days away. We could head further south and go to the capital, somewhere we always enjoy. However London is an expensive city to spend time in when you are a family of five, so maybe we should bypass it and head for the coast; I loved it around St Ives when we stayed there before.
With not a lot of time to search for deals, I’m going to log on to a hotel reservations specialist site and have a little look for reasonably priced accommodation in Scotland and hopefully snag a great offer or discount, you never know. I think wherever we end up going, there will be lots of driving involved!
So what about you, do you think it is nice to be spontaneous and make plans at the last minute like us or do you book well ahead to get the very best rates and deals? I’d love to know what others have planned for the summer holidays so do share 🙂
