Review: Kartell Matelasse from Pink Apple Designs

Matelasse main

Have you ever heard of the brand Kartell?  You may well have seen the Louis Ghost Chair by Philippe Starck which is one of the most popular and well recognised chairs from Kartell’s large portfolio.  The transparent baroque style chair is a bit of a design classic and as it is stackable and weatherproof, it makes a stylish choice for outdoors as much as indoors, where it is versatile enough to suit the dining room, bedroom or home office:

Moulded from a single injection of clear polycarbonate, it’s just one item from the creative, innovative designs of furniture brand, Kartell, who specialise in bringing a sense of modern glamour to plastic products.  Recently, an authentic licensed supplier of Kartell products, Pink Apple Designs, contacted me to invite me to review a Kartell item from their collection.  I chose a gloss white Kartell Matelasse, which is another versatile product for the home.

The Matelasse is designed by Patricia Urquiola and is a quite beautiful, multi-functional home accessory.  Featuring a ‘padded’ design, this large container can be utilised in many ways – as a vase, stylish waste basket, umbrella holder or – perhaps my favourite – as a glossy, glamorous wine cooler.

At a height of 30cm and a diameter of 23cm, it is large and very sturdy.  It also comes in a variety of both transparent and gloss finish colours, all featuring that lovely, waffle texture.  Look at this gloss amber Matelasse employed as a stunning vase:

I think you will agree the Matelasse makes quite a statement and I am sure we will use ours in lots of different ways for a long time, as it is both durable and eye-catching.  If you love fun homeware, colour and good design, you will enjoy checking out the full range of Kartell products available from Pink Apple, as well as many more modern furniture pieces and accessories from a huge range of leading designers.
