This year I’m lucky to be one of a team of bloggers who are working with Graham & Brown on various interior trend challenges and this one is the Popsicle trend. To me, this trend is all about playing with colour, particularly fresh pastels and gradual tones. It has quite a nostalgic feel, reminding me of childhood summers, buying ice creams from a van, wearing frilly skirts and sandals at summer festivals and fetes, with painted pink toe nails, eating dolly mixtures.
When I was a little girl, I remember picking out a lemon t-shirt with a lilac skirt and coming downstairs in it. My mum commented on how lovely the two colours looked together and I was really pleased that I’d put together a nice outfit all by myself. I still think those two colours really work beautifully together – so fresh and summery, like lavender and lemons!
It made me think about how you could incorporate these colours into the home; perhaps the bedroom or a girl’s bedroom would seem like the obvious choice, but actually it’s a combination that I think would look amazing in a kitchen.
I particularly love the sweetie-coloured chairs here against the brick background, which helps prevent the look from being too ‘saccharin’ for me.
Graham & Brown’s paint colours ‘Second Skin‘ and ‘Daisyfield‘ would be a great combination – I’m imagining a wooden dresser painted lilac, against a mellow yellow wall and some exposed brickwork – fabulous!
