Three Different Claw Hammers And How They Work

A claw hammer is a type of hammer that carpenters typically use with their work. This type of hammer can be used to drill in nails or pull nails out of wood.

A woodworker uses this type of hammer, too. However, it can be used by anyone in their daily lives.

The majority of claw hammers will have similar designs. However, some will be different. Here we will discuss three types of claw hammers:

Ball-peen Hammer

Ball-peen hammer is a type of hammer that is commonly used for metalworking. It is also known as the Machinist’s hammer.

This type of hammer is originally used for peening, or shaping metal materials by hammering. At one end of the hammer, it has a ball-shaped hammer, which is the part used for shaping metal materials.

This hammer can be purchased in different weights. You can purchase one with two ounces or get the heavier one with 48 ounces.

Framing Hammer

A second type of claw hammer is a framing hammer. This type of claw hammer is used in construction, especially with framing houses and concrete work.

This is a heavy-duty hammer with a claw on one part with a hammer part. This either comes with a wooden, metal, or fiberglass handle.

Like a ball peen hammer, a framing hammer can be purchased in different sizes.

Tack Hammer

The third type of hammer we will highlight is a tack hammer. This is another type of claw hammer.

This hammer is similar to but different from the other two hammers we highlighted. This hammer has two hammerheads on each side of the head of the hammer.

This hammer is used to secure upholstery fabric to furniture frames with tacks or small nails. A person can use either side to get the job done.

Similar to the other hammers, this hammer can also be purchased in different weights.
