Everyone’s a little bit clumsy. But for some people, that can become a habit. It doesn’t mean you’re a silly person who doesn’t know how to take care of yourself, just that you could have so much on your plate that focusing on every detail is a challenge.
You may also experience this when heading abroad, as we have to lug a great number of our belongings and possessions there If we fail to pack perfectly we may find our clothing being squashed or the items we bring in our hand luggage being pressed and damaged. Hey, even if you pack perfectly, the airline can lose your bags.
However, if you notice that certain possessions are continually damaged, like your glasses frames, then you may find some help in changing your habits. Here are a few suggestions that may assist you:
Use Portable Hard-Shell Carry Cases
If your glasses always seem to end up with one arm slightly bent or the lenses smudged more than can be repaired, then it’s probably time to rethink how you’re storing them. Carrying them loose in a pocket or dropped into a bag full of other stuff is pretty much asking for damage at some point.
A hard-shell case might sound like a no-brainer, but plenty of people still go without, probably because they assume it’s just another bulky thing to carry. These days though, cases are much slimmer and still do the job well. You can find foldable ones and styles that fit into a side pocket without much fuss. If you treat it like part of your daily carry, just like your phone or wallet, your glasses are more likely to stay clean abroad.
GPS Tag Your Valuables
This is more for peace of mind, especially if you’re heading abroad or just tend to misplace things while running around during a busy day. Tiny GPS trackers can fit inside a glasses case or be attached to a keychain with barely any extra weight, and if you ever lose your bag or misplace your belongings while moving through airports or public transport, that little ping on your phone can save a lot of stress. You don’t need to go overboard and track everything you own, but popping one into a case that holds something you rely on every single day, like your varifocal glasses, can be genuinely helpful
Use Insurance & Inventory
Sometimes damage just happens no matter how careful you are, and that’s when having a little backup plan can keep your blood pressure the same. Not everyone uses this, but you can actually insure your glasses through certain home or travel insurance policies. You don’t have to get an expensive plan too, as a basic add-on or even a one-off cover while travelling can do the job.
With this advice, we hope you can feel more confident in preventing the loss of damage of your goods abroad. It might take time to achieve but it does make a difference.
