Mattress Covers: 10 Different Types To Help You Sleep Soundly

Image

Sometimes a mattress and a bedsheet isn’t enough. Mattress covers are extra layers between your mattress and bedsheet that can help to provide added comfort or protect your mattress from damage. These covers come in a range of different forms for different purposes. Below are 10 different types to explore.

Memory foam mattress covers

Memory foam is designed to mold to your body – which can provide greater comfort and pain relief for many sleepers. Not everyone can afford to invest in a memory foam mattress. A memory foam mattress topper is much cheaper, and can give your mattress that added sponginess you may desire.

Woolen mattress covers

For year-round natural temperature regulation, consider a woolen mattress cover. These toppers can keep your bed warm in the winter. In hot weather, they meanwhile have moisture wicking properties, helping to make you less sweaty.

Latex mattress covers

A latex mattress cover could also help you get a good night’s sleep by improving comfort. These covers are also great in hot weather, because they stay cool.

Heated mattress covers

Heated mattress covers are essentially electric blankets that cover your entire mattress. You plug them in at night to warm up your bed on a cold winter’s night. Many of them have in-built features to stop them getting too hot.

Cooling mattress covers

Serving the opposite function to heated mattress covers are cooling mattress covers. These mattresses are made from gel-infused foam or phase-change materials that can draw heat away from the body. Such mattress toppers are great for those that live in hot climates.

Waterproof mattress covers

Moisture can damage your mattress and encourage bacteria and mold growth. Waterproof mattress covers can create a barrier – they are useful for people that sweat a lot or suffer from incontinence.

Hypoallergenic mattress covers

Allergic to pollen or dust mites? Some mattresses can end up harboring spores in them, causing a restless night sleep for those with allergies. Hypoallergenic mattress covers are made from materials like 100% cotton or bamboo to prevent sneezing or skin irritation.

Grounding mattress covers

A grounding mattress cover may help to reduce stress and inflammation by stabilizing the body’s electrical energy. These mattress covers are connected to your home’s electricity supply, but are not electronically charged – instead soaking up electrons from the human body and transferring them into the earth. This is sometimes referred to as ‘earthing’ and has become more popular in recent years.

Massaging mattress covers

You can buy some mattress covers that give you a massage. These are plugged into an electric outlet and provide gentle vibrations – which can help to reduce stress and potentially help reduce pain around the body.

Smart mattress covers

The smartest type of mattress cover is the smart mattress cover. These mattress toppers can be connected to an app on your phone and may provide multiple functions such as temperature control and massaging abilities, as well as potentially recording various data such as your sleep quality detecting sounds and movements. You may even be able to set alarms that can wake you up when you’re not in a deep sleep so that you get up feeling more well rested.
