Spice Up Your Garden with a Hot Tub

hot tub

We all like a little bit of luxury, don’t we?  And one surefire way of pampering yourself in your downtime is to enjoy a hot tub experience at home.

What was once a spa day or holiday treat, is becoming much more mainstream, with many people discovering the joy and benefits of having a hot tub in their outdoor space at home.

If you are interested in purchasing a hot tub, what are the main considerations?

The Benefits of a Hot Tub

For deep relaxation and stress release, a hot tub can be ideal.  Whereas a hot bath will quickly go cold, a hot tub maintains a perfect temperature so you can relax for longer.  People who enjoy sports find a hot tub extremely soothing to tired muscles after a workout or other physical exercise.  While those with stressful jobs and busy lives find it a wonderful way to unwind and soothe away troubles at the end of the day.

A hot tub can have signifcant benefits to those with health problems, too – aches, pains and stiffness can be relieved by the heat and buoyancy of the water and it can be a great environment to do a few gentle exercises in too, for those same reasons.  Meanwhile, the focused jets of water can offer a therapeutic massage to the body.  Studies suggest there are tangible hot tub health benefits for people with conditions like diabetes and arthritis, too, and many people maintain that using one can be an effective way to relax before bed and contributing to a good night’s sleep.

Where can I put my Hot Tub

Most hot tubs require a hard, flat and stable surface to stand on, whether that’s concrete, sand or gravel.  Although some smaller models may plug into a wall, others will require professional installation.  Research reputable suppliers online and if possible talk to someone who has already had one installed to get their recommendations and any top tips worth knowing in advance.   Think about any safety aspects concerning where you locate your tub and whether the chosen spot affords pleasant views and sufficient privacy.  You can buy products like willow screening to create a nice private aspect and ideally you should position it fairly close to the house, otherwise you may not use it as often during colder weather if it means a walk of some distance to and from the hot tub.

Maintaining my Hot Tub

Cleanliness is important when it comes to enjoying your hot tub safely.  If not properly maintained, they can breed bacteria, as the warm temperature is ideal for it to thrive in.  This is why you need to use high quality chemicals that are designed for hot tub use.  Using the correct chemicals will also extend the life of your equipment.  A specialist company with expertise in hot tub chemicals will be best able to advise you about how to use the appropriate chemicals to kill off any bugs and bacteria that may be introduced.  Once your hot tub is installed and you have a starter kit supply of everything you need to ensure a comfortable balance of chemicals, you will be able to enjoy a clean and soothing spa experience every time you use your hot tub.  Bliss!

Great article, the health benefits make it worthwhile on its own, inflatable hot tubs are also a cost effective way of doing this too without having to break the bank!

Superb article Antonia. Cost is also a main consideration but we would recommend caution when deciding quickly to purchase a hot tub based on price alone. Cheap hot tubs do not offer great value for money and they are usually cheap for a reason. Take care that you do not waste money on a cheap hot tub that will not long term give you the real benefits you are looking for. Sometimes spending a little more to get a better experience will be in the long term a worthwhile decision. Also take care that you research the company to make sure they are legitimate. Do they have a showroom or are they just an online seller providing cheap products with no real value or backup customer service. Need some more advice? I would highley recommend hiring a hot tub first before buying Antonia. Main reasons is that you never know what your getting? and like rob says cheaper hot tubs are less quality and prone of breaking which will cost you a lot of money in the long run.

Portable and inflatable hot tubs are of a really good quality today. It’s mostly 3 layer PVC. Inflatable hot tub costs about $400 while a built in one is a 10 fold price increase.

Great article! And with the new generation inflatable hot tubs, they’re available for almost everybody at descent prices (and more flexibility than a traditional hot tub).
