Transforming Your Living Space For The Winter

As the seasons change and we say goodbye to summer, you might start thinking about changing your interior decorating around. After all, the hot sun is wonderful, but you have to accept the fact that the days are getting shorter and the nights colder.

A living room that suited the summer just right might not be what you want or need for autumn or winter. You might want to change it around for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you simply want a change every now and then. Or perhaps you want to create a cosy sitting room for those long, cold, dark nights.

In any case, here are some ways to quickly transform your living room into a warm and cosy hideaway, so that you can be ready for autumn and winter.

Rugs Are Your Friend

A rug is a fantastic way to rapidly ramp up the cosiness factor of a room. You can find some great options at Rugstore NE, which suit any floor type or room. A rug adds a focal point to your room as well, breaking up large spaces of empty floor to make things seem less spread out.

If you have wooden or laminate floors, then a rug is far warmer for bare feet or socks. True, you might appreciate those cool floors in summer, but in winter you just want something comfortable that will keep you warm. A rug holds onto heat and is far more comfortable.

You can put a rug underneath the furniture to protect your flooring, or add it to walkways to add some extra colour. Depending on your room and your preferences, a rug can become an understated but valuable part of your decorations. The best part is that laying a rug down is as simple as it sounds, all you need to do is buy it and choose where to put it.

Wall Hangings Galore

Wall hangings are a rapid way to add colour and character to a room. The classic wall hanging is a painting or framed print, which can be as outlandish or understated as you please. Or you could go for a more unique tapestry wall hanging which will further add some warmth to the room.

One of the great things about wall hangings is that you can move them around and switch them between rooms to rapidly change how things look. It’s an inexpensive and quick way to redecorate your house and freshen up your decor.

A Splash of Colour

Speaking of your walls, another quick and easy way to drastically change how your living room looks is to paint the walls a different colour. Even if you like the existing colour, there is always a benefit to freshening up the paint. Your walls can begin to look tired and dirty over time, but a quick lick of paint breathes new life into them.

The colour of the walls does make a difference to how a room looks and feels. Bright and cool colours can make a room feel larger and more airy. However, warmer and darker colours can ramp up the cosy feeling of your living room.

Another option is to use wallpaper to add some interesting patterns. If you like the idea of a feature wall, then a heavily patterned wallpaper rapidly adds a lot of character to your room and draws the eye. You can achieve a similar effect with a painted feature wall, but wallpaper can really make a statement.

Soft Furnishings

You don’t need to completely switch up your furniture to change how it looks or to make it seem warmer. You can find replacement couch covers or use blankets and throws to cover over your furniture, making it look completely different. Switch out your cushions and cushion covers as well, to explore new colour schemes.

Even moving your furniture around can completely change up a room. By moving furniture further away from the walls, you break up empty space and make a room feel more full. On the other hand, pushing your furniture back gives you plenty of room and makes your living space more airy.

It doesn’t have to take much to completely transform your living room and to prepare it for winter. A few changes, along with plenty of jumpers and warm blankets, will have your family curled up hiding from the cold weather in no time. You can settle down and relax with a good film and a hot drink.
