Your living room could do with a little TLC this year. Rooms like the kitchen and the bathroom get regular upgrades; after all, they get a lot of heavy use and are more likely to be damaged by grease and water.
But the living room can often be left off of the home makeover list. And if that’s the case in your household, it’s time to pay some loving attention to the decor that makes up the heart of your home.
With that in mind, here are three things that are most likely to need changing in your living room – and try to get them changed ASAP!
Look at Your Upholstery
Is the sofa still in good condition? What about the armchairs in your living room? Or maybe there’s a desk chair or some dining chairs at the back of the room?
When you look over these pieces of furniture, can you see bits of thread coming out of the cushions, and the upholstery edges pulling away from where they were stapled down before?
If either is the case, it could be time to get your seating upholstered and give them a new lease on life.
And remember, the older the furniture is, the better it is to get it reupholstered rather than replaced. It could be worth something one day!
Lay New Flooring
How long has it been since you put down the carpet in your living room? If it’s been over 10 years at this point, it’s time to invest in a new carpet and rip the old one out.
Carpets aren’t meant to last forever, and they’re certainly not going to last the same amount of time as something like some properly treated hardwood. They’re going to take on grime, become degraded due to wear over the years, and start looking a lot less bright than they once did.
When you notice this in your living room carpet, don’t delay in getting it replaced – and maybe also make a new rule that no shoes are allowed on it!
Slot in Some Surfaces
Everyone could do with some more surfaces in their living room! These are things like bookshelves and side tables and/or sideboards; if you’ve only got a coffee table to make use of, you’re going to be running out of storage space every single time there’s more than one person in the living room!
Plus, it’s usually easier than you’d think to get some more usable surface space in the living room. You can even slot faux sideboards over the radiators, and that can give you a great bit of surface area along a rather tricky wall.
Changing your living room for the better is something you probably should get done today! Keep this in mind if you’re feeling a bit of a DIY bug biting right now. Start with this room before you move onto any others. There’s so much more function and aesthetic to be squeezed out of it!
