DFS Going For Gold with the Britannia Range

union jack 2

I was excited to take delivery of this beautiful chair from DFS recently.  This is no ordinary chair, as you can probably tell just by looking at it, but did you also know that I actually helped to make it?

If you follow the blog, you may have read about my trip to DFS in Derbyshire where we took a factory tour and spent some time in the design studio, getting hands on with a bit of furniture making.

DFS is the official partner of Team GB for the Olympic Games this summer.  In celebration of that fact, and to ensure all our athletes get to sit comfortably in Team GB’s HQ in Rio, DFS designed a very special, limited edition range of seating called Britannia.

Based on the iconic Chesterfield design, the range is handmade with exquisite detailing.  Check out the gorgeous castors, for example and those studs – which I helped apply!  The gold studs accurately represent the number of Olympic gold medals we have won since the summer games began – 233 to be precise!  I like how the cushion plays with the patriotic union jack; it’s more subtle and muted, and sets off the chair beautifully.

Love the little commemorative plaque on the back of the chair too:

I think when the Games start, we’ll be fighting to sit in our Olympic chair in front of the TV.  I should mention, the Britannia range is only available to buy for 6 months, so if you love it don’t delay!

With the Games coming live from exotic Brazil, and because we’ve placed the chair in our sunny conservatory, I thought it would be fun to add a bit of tropical styling to the Britannia.

The leafy botanical trend is huge in home interiors right now.  I added some lush greenery, both real and faux, a tropical cushion and some wall art.

The jungle print pictures are actually wallpaper samples from Murals Wallpaper, but I could be quite tempted to paper a whole wall with one of the designs – could you?

We’ve never had such an elegant chair in the home before.  It’s really lovely and relaxing to sit in this corner and the chair is more upright and less slouchy than our sofa, so it is the perfect seat for reading – my new favourite place to devour all my home interiors magazines with a latte by my side.  Sheer bliss!

Thank you DFS and good luck to Team GB this summer in Rio!  It’s good to know they will be feeling rested and comfortable between events thanks to the Britannia range.
