Five Things You Need To Do When Moving House

Moving house might be something that you do a few times in your lifetime. For some, it might be a dozen times and for others, it might just be once or twice. Regardless of how many times you move, it’s good to get it right so that you reduce the stress and financial strain that it can have on your household.

There are some key tips to maximize your efforts when moving house, so here are five things you’ll need to do when moving house.

Declutter your spaces and be ruthless

First and foremost – declutter! It’s perhaps the most important step before moving because you don’t want to be taking with you, anything that might end up being chucked out the other end anyway.

When you’re decluttering, it’s good to go room by room and identify the areas where you need to focus. Bit by bit, you’ll find that you throw more things out but it’s something that you need to be ruthless with.

If you’re holding onto junk for sentimental purposes, then you need to ask yourself what value it brings and if it’s not bringing anything other than a sentimental feeling, then chuck it out.

Book a removal and storage company

A removals and storage company is worth finding as early on as possible. The sooner you get it booked in, the easier it will be to select and date and get you moved from one property to the other.

A service that does both removals and storage can be helpful when you perhaps don’t have the ability to move into the new home just yet, or you’re looking to move in with relatives while you search for a new property.

By not booking in a removals and storage company early on, you risk having very few options to choose from and as a result, you may find you’ve got to spend more in order to get good value of service.

Get packing early on

Packing early on is also a good tip in order to feel less stressed as you approach moving day. If everything is packed up and ready to go, then you don’t need to worry about staying up the night before in order to pack everything away.

Your future self will thank you for getting the packing done early, so make sure you’ve got all the packing essentials you need. Your removals service might also offer you packing services if you don’t fancy packing up the home yourself or you’re having trouble sourcing packing materials.

Pack an essentials box

An essentials box is those few boxes that you might need in the first twelve to twenty-four hours of you moving to a new place.

You might not have the ability or time to unpack every box in the first day or so, which is why having an essentials box can be helpful.

Clean your new home in preparation

And finally, make sure to clean your new home in preparation for all of your belongings to arrive. This is something you might want to do fairly quickly or you might have some time to play with to get it professionally cleaned a few days before you move.

These tips will help you make moving home easier and less of a stress. It’s a process that you can do every time you move.
