How to Care for Your Engagement Ring

Being proposed to is an unforgettable moment in your life and the beginning of a new chapter in your relationship. The engagement ring signifies your commitment to one another and you will want to show it off, but you must also make sure that you know how to properly care for this ring and keep it in the best condition. This post will tell you all you need to know and help you feel confident in properly caring for your engagement ring.

How to Store the Ring

You should not wear the ring 24/7 (more on this to come), so it is vital that you know how to store the ring when you are not wearing it. You hear many horror stories of people losing their ring when they take it off, so you need to know how to properly store the ring. It is a good idea to have ring dishes placed around the house so that you can keep it safe and know exactly where it is when you are not wearing it. Make sure these dishes are not anywhere the ring could easily be knocked off the surface.

Cleaning Your Engagement Ring

You should clean the ring regularly to keep it looking its best and avoid damage. You must avoid harsh chemicals when cleaning the ring – simply putting it in a mug of warm water with a few drops of mild soap and then gently scrubbing with a soft-bristled toothbrush will suffice. You could also get the ring professionally cleaned before the big day.

When to Take it Off

As mentioned, you should not wear your eye-catching engagement ring 24/7 (even though you might want to!). You should take it off during any kind of hands-on activity, such as cleaning, gardening, and DIY. It is also wise to remove the ring during exercise. Whenever you take the ring off, make sure that you place it in a ring dish or jewellery box and put it back on after you are done with the activity.

Insurance

Finally, you should insure the ring in case the worst should happen. Insurance will provide financial coverage if the ring is lost, damaged, or stolen, but it can also provide peace of mind—something that you cannot put a price on!

It is also wise to get your diamond engagement ring appraised, as the cost of diamonds and jewellery tends to increase over time.

Hopefully, the information in this post will be helpful and help you feel confident in caring for your engagement ring. Receiving an engagement ring is an incredible feeling, and you will want to wear it with pride, but it can also be daunting to wear such a valuable and sentimental item. Proper care for your ring will keep it in the best condition and help you avoid any issues.
