Plan the Perfect Relaxing Break with Your Pet

Leaving your pet behind when you go away can be hard. You’re used to having their presence at home, and you miss them when you’re away.  If you’re not happy about leaving your furry, feathered or scaled friend when you travel, the other option is to take them with you and enjoy some time away together. Of course, this often requires a little more careful planning. But by taking your pet away with you, you can have a much more relaxing time because you’re not worrying about them. To plan a trip away with your pet, consider the following things.

Plan for Travel

Getting your pet from A to B is a major consideration when you want to travel together. You’ll need to think about your mode of transport and how to keep your pet safe and secure during the journey. If you’re planning to go abroad, you will have even more planning to do because you will need to make sure your pet has the right vaccinations and paperwork. Travelling can be stressful for pets, especially if they’re not used to it, so think of your pet’s comfort when you’re planning your trip. Make sure everything is safe for them, including having a carrier in the car for smaller pets, which should be secured.

Find the Right Accommodation

Choosing the right place to stay is a must when you travel with your pet, especially if you want to be able to relax. Some people choose self-catered accommodation if they’re looking for more space, but others would rather choose a hotel. If you’re really looking to relax, a spa hotel like Dormy House in the Cotswolds is ideal and welcoming for dogs. There are more dog friendly spa hotel ideas on All Four Paws if you’re looking for more choices. Consider hotels that will provide a bowl and a bed for your pet, but also those that will go above and beyond to pamper them.

Take All the Creature Comforts

Being in an unfamiliar environment can be stressful for pets. If you take your pet away with you, it’s a good idea to provide some reminders of home. That might mean taking their bed or food and water bowls with you, or their favourite toys. Just sticking with the same food can also be useful, and trying to follow a similar routine to the one that you have at home.

Choose Some Pet-friendly Activities

Of course, if you go away with your pet, you don’t want to leave them behind while you go out and do things all day. To relax together with your pet, plan some activities that are fun for both of you. It could be simply sitting around and reading a book while your pet cuddles up to you. It could also mean taking your dog for a walk or finding some other enjoyable activities that both you and your pet can do.

Take your pet away with you on your next break, and you can both have an enjoyable and relaxing time.
