How to Create a Seamless Transition Between Outside Your Home and Inside

Our homes are designed to protect us from the elements and serve as a warm, comfortable space where we feel safe and secure. However, that doesn’t mean that the outdoors should be avoided at all costs.

Spending time outdoors is good for our mental and emotional health. While it’s not practical to spend most of our time outdoors, there are ways you can blur the lines between interior and exterior spaces and bring a bit of the great outdoors into your home. Let’s find out how.

Use Glass

The walls in your home are what separates the outside from the inside. The obvious choice when looking to break down the barriers is to physically remove these walls. However, before you explore soft strip demolition or start taking a hammer to your walls yourself, stop and think for a few seconds.

You don’t really want to knock down external walls, you’ll soon find out why when winter rolls around. Instead, glass can be the perfect way of creating a seamless transition between the outdoors and the inside of your home, without sacrificing your warmth and comfort.

Install bigger windows or even patio doors. This will give you a perfect view of the outside world from the comfort of your home.

Think About Colour

When it comes to interior design, colour shouldn’t be an afterthought. The colours you choose to paint your home are incredibly important and they can actually have an effect on your mood and emotional state.

If you’re looking to blur the lines between the outdoors and the inside of your home, there are certain colours that will work best. Think about natural, earthy tones. We associate these with the natural world, and they will make your home appear more grounded and connected to nature.

Greens and browns are the best. Experiment with these colours and play with different tones to achieve the look you want.

Add Some Plants

Our final tip for creating a seamless transition between outside and inside is to bring in some houseplants. This is one of the most effective approaches, it can immediately make you feel as if you’re relaxing in a tranquil garden or meadow.

Having houseplants has been proven to benefit our health. They can help promote healthy air and generally make us feel happier and more content. There are countless different varieties of houseplants out there. They come in various shapes, sizes and colours.

Take the time to check out lots of different plants to find one that catches your eye. However, if you have pets, remember that certain houseplants can be toxic. Lillies are particularly dangerous, for example. If you are a pet owner, research any houseplant thoroughly before you bring it into your home.

Conclusion

Who doesn’t love spending time in nature? Use the tips in this guide to blur the lines and create a seamless transition between the natural world and the interior of your home. In doing so, you’ll create a more attractive and welcoming space that can offer you important physical and mental health benefits.
