Shopfront Security In 2024 – What You Need To Be Aware Of

The great thing when it comes to security solutions in the 21st century is that there are so many options to choose between. Ironically, this is also the main problem when it comes to developing an overall security strategy – there are simply too many options to be aware of everything that might be helpful for your business.

Luckily that’s why articles like this exist, to provide you with an overview of potentially useful solutions – let’s take a look at what you need to be aware of in the world of shopfront security in 2024.

Counter shutters

Lots of businesses, such as cafes and takeaway restaurants, operate using counters that open onto public areas. These openings need to have well-thought-out closings installed, to ensure that people aren’t able to break in and steal cash or other assets.

Counter shutters from suppliers such as LBS Group are only getting stronger, faster, and more convenient to use. It’s definitely worth assessing the efficacy of the option you have at the moment, and seeing if you might be able to upgrade.

Steel doors

All businesses that have a shopfront will also have a door, and it’s worth thinking about the level of security you need at that potential weak point. For businesses that have particularly valuable assets kept overnight, it’s definitely worth considering a steel door.

These doors are incredibly resistant to forced entry, and can also be shut behind your storefront shutter, to provide a double barrier. Whether you leave the door with a plain metal finish as a deterrent, or you cover it in wood or plastic, it’s definitely a solution that’s worth your consideration.

Perforated roller shutters

In many situations, perforated roller shutters can be an ideal solution for shopfronts. The perforations mean that light can still enter when they’re shut, and passers-by will still be able to see your business’s branding and what you stock.

They’ll still offer a strong barrier against forced entry, and will protect the glass front from both drunken acts of vandalism and attempted burglaries. It’s important that you get your shutters custom-fitted to your premises. They need to be set a certain distance away from the glass to provide adequate protection, and will need to be installed by a professional who knows what potential weaknesses to look out for.

CCTV & sensors

In addition to material security measures, it’s useful to install CCTV and motion sensors in front of your shop. Not only will this act as a security deterrent, but you can now also get these cameras linked up to your phone, so you can access the video feed from anywhere with an internet connection. If you’re ever worried, you can simply pull up the video on your phone and take a look.

These are some of the main things we think you need to be aware of when it comes to shopfront security in 2024. The exact options you go with will depend on your security needs; these will differ depending on the kind of business you run and where you’re located. It’s important that you take a context-specific approach, so that you’re mitigating genuine risks your business is facing, not just adopting solutions that are trending at the moment.
