Ways to Lower Your Home’s Carbon Footprint and Save Money

The importance of incorporating sustainable practices into your daily life means something different for every homeowner. From large projects to small changes in daily habits, there are impactful ways you can make an impact on the environment every day from the comfort of your home. If you are looking for ways to reduce your home’s carbon footprint while saving your hard-earned money, keep reading to explore different strategies for lowering your environmental effects.

Install Solar Panels

Solar panels, also known as photovoltaic panels, convert the sun’s light into electricity. These panels are becoming more common for homeowners to install to ease their burden on the electricity grid whilst saving money at home and cutting down on energy consumption. They are a great investment for both the environment and your wallet. When you are ready to learn more about the process and schedule your solar panel installation, always work with licensed professionals, such as those at Essex Solar Company to ensure a proper installation and great results.

Of note, even if you live in an area that sees more clouds than the sun throughout the year, solar panels are still beneficial since they do not require full sun to harness the sun’s power to fuel the panels and generate, and store electricity.

Add Greenery Indoors and Outside

Plants can make a significant impact on the air quality in your home and the environment at large. On the inside of your home, add air-scrubbing plants that are beautiful and will help purify the air by absorbing carbon dioxide, especially when the windows are closed in the colder months. They not only add a touch of nature but also help your indoor environment.

On the outside of your house, planting quick-growing shade trees is beneficial. They help reduce the sun’s impact on your home and provide an insulating factor which can help save you from a high utility bill any time of year. Beyond that, they also scrub carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and store it in their root system, which helps provide cleaner air for everyone.

Finally, consider planting a vegetable garden at home. Not only will you be able to harvest fresh produce from right outside your door, but you will also reduce vehicle emissions by avoiding trips to the grocery store and save money by planting at home. Look for plants native to your region that grow well in your local area for continued success.

Make Recycling Easy

Recycling is something everyone can do at home to help the environment. Make it as easy as possible by adding recycling bins in the main rooms and emptying them routinely. Go one step further by reducing the need to recycle by bringing fewer items into your home. This last step will also help lower your consumer costs and save you money over time with new spending habits.

Watch this video for tips on how to make your home more energy efficient whether you plan on staying in one place or are considering selling it.

Embrace the growing trend of eco-friendly home technologies, such as solar panels, that are revolutionizing the way you think about energy consumption. Incorporate environmentally-friendly plants into your landscape and tablescape to create a greener home. Finally, do your part to recycle by making the process easy.
