Why it Makes Sense to Do the Big Renovations First

When you first buy a house, it’s likely that you’re feeling a wide range of emotions. As exciting as it can be, you can still be dealing with some of the stress of moving and ensuring that the purchase goes smoothly. But once you’ve moved in and the dust settles a little, you may find that you’re ready to get started with some renovations. There will always be some of the rooms that you’re excited to decorate right away, but you might need to take a step back before diving right in. Because, it’s always important for you to start by tackling the bigger renovations first. While they may not always be the most beautiful of places to start, they are some of the most important of all. In this blog post, we’re specifically going to take a look at what it makes sense for you to do the following five areas first.

1. Electrics and Plumbing

The electrics and plumbing of the house are part of the skeleton of the house. You also need them to live. Making sure that these have been replaced, repaired, or are in good working order before you do anything else makes a lot of sense. They can also be relatively costly, so it’s good to get them out of the way first. Plus, if you decide you need to fix them later on down the line, it will end up destroying any decorating you have done.

2. Roofing

The same goes for the roof. This is how your home stays dry and secure. If there is an issue, it could have an impact on the loft and the floor below. If you suspect there are any issues, you’ll want to iron them out as soon as you can. Before you create a plan of action, you may find that getting a survey will help you to see what work may need doing. If you need a full roof replacement, you can look at doing it right away.

3. Driveway

The driveway is also another huge part of your home and renovation work. If you need a safe and reliable place to park your cars, this should be high up on your list. You may need to call in surfacing contractors to help with any repair work or to replace the driveway for you. Plus, if you have renovated the entire house and you leave the driveway unfinished, it will bring down the work you’ve done.

4. Kitchen and Bathrooms

There’s also the kitchen and bathrooms in the house. These are often the rooms we’re most excited about working on. But they should also be done first before any additional decorating work. Your chosen kitchen design may need the space to be extended and reconfigured, which is a lot of work. You may also want to move bathrooms or need new plumbing done, so this is always important to plan in first.

5. Landscaping

Lastly, we have the landscaping. While this is generally something that you want to do when all of the major building works are done, it should still be a high priority on your list. When you’ve worked hard to make your home look the part, you don’t want to leave your garden out. It can really bring down the overall finish. But, when you’re able to bring in the right patio or decking area, new fencing, and spruce up the lawn and plants, you’ll see that it really finishes off the renovation nicely. Plus, as soon as the weather is warm, it means you get to head out and enjoy it all.
