There’s something about Sundays that makes me want to start the week feeling calmer and more organised – but without spending the entire day cleaning. Over the years, I’ve learned that a simple weekly “reset” works far better than trying to keep on top of everything all the time.
With a busy household and young adults sharing spaces, clutter and mess can build up quickly. A Sunday reset isn’t about perfection – it’s about doing a few key jobs that make the week ahead feel easier and more manageable.
Why a weekly reset works
For me, a Sunday reset is about small, achievable actions rather than a full deep clean. It might mean refreshing floors, tackling the bathroom, and putting systems in place so shared rooms don’t descend into chaos by Wednesday.
Even a short reset helps:
-
shared spaces feel calmer
-
cleaning during the week takes less time
-
everyone knows where things belong
It’s as much about mindset as it is about cleaning.
Clean smarter, not harder with a steam cleaner
One tool that’s made a big difference to my Sunday routine is a steam cleaner. Steam cleaning allows you to freshen floors and surfaces quickly, without needing lots of different products or harsh chemicals – which is ideal in a busy family home.
I love that steam cleaning feels efficient. You’re not scrubbing endlessly or switching between sprays; you’re just getting the job done and moving on with your day.

Using one tool, that can be used upright or handheld, across multiple rooms, makes me appreciate how versatile a steam cleaner can be during a reset.
Boys’ shared bedroom
The boys’ room has laminate flooring, which benefits from a light, low-steam clean rather than lots of water. A quick pass freshens the space and makes it feel instantly tidier – especially helpful when combined with a bit of decluttering.

Bathroom
The handheld function is perfect for the bathroom. It’s great for tiles, grout and taps, giving everything a hygienic clean without relying on sprays. It’s one of those jobs that makes a big visual difference for very little effort. I used to dread cleaning the bathroom as it always seemed such hard work, but I don’t mind it at all now, it’s actually quite satisfying.

Storage that actually works for shared spaces
Cleaning is only half the reset – storage is what keeps things looking tidy afterwards. In a shared bedroom, having somewhere to quickly put things away is essential.
To tackle the constant end-of-bed clutter pile, I added a slim kids storage unit in the form of a metal locker-style cabinet. It’s practical, doesn’t take up much floor space and looks intentional rather than like an afterthought.
The shelves make it easy to organise everyday items and because everything has a place, it’s much quicker to tidy during the week – which is exactly what a Sunday reset is about.

Keeping the reset realistic
Some Sundays I do more, some I do less – the goal isn’t a showroom-perfect house, but a home that supports everyday life. A few reliable tools, a simple routine and some storage that actually works go a long way. I also encourage the family to get involved and be responsible for keeping on top of their own spaces.
It makes for a nicer, calmer home for all of us and a realistic reset makes Mondays feel lighter – which is always a bonus.
