Consider These Things When Redesigning Your Kitchen

Are you going to be redesigning your kitchen int near future? If like me, it’s something you are planning to do, there are many important things we need to consider. From layout to appliances and storage to lighting. Cupboard styles, colours, worktops and more. It isn’t something we want to rush, in order to ensure we get everything just right. Nobody wants to regret their decisions after the kitchen is fitted in. So let’s take a thorough and methodical look at some of the key things we need to be thinking about when redesigning a kitchen space.

Countertops

First we’re going to be looking at countertops. If your countertops are old, worn, maybe have burn marks, scratches, knife damage or stains on them, it’s time to install some new ones. It’s one of the most tried and tested ways to refresh a kitchen, whether you are going for a whole revamp of just the worktops alone.

First things first, what kind of style and material do you envisage in your kitchen? Will it fit within your budget or are you happy to invest in the kitchen’s surfaces? If budget is tight then there are some excellent laminates on the market that will give you a high end look. If you have fewer worktops, you may find a luxury material is more affordable than you expected and will really elevate the space into something extra special.

If you like a look of luxury, you can get some beautiful quartz worktops that would be an eye catcher in any space! Or, you can go for a wooden look depending on the rest of your kitchen. There are plenty of options to research.

Cupboard Fronts

From countertops to cupboard fronts next. Are you changing the layout of your kitchen completely or keeping it as is? Can you reuse any cupboards or cabinets or are you starting afresh?

If you’re not going to be changing the placement of your cupboards, you can still update them to make them fit with the new theme. You can take the fronts off and replace them with something completely new to make your kitchen look brand new. Or, there are vinyl wraps that you can get to cover your existing doors if you are trying to do this on a small budget. Another alternative is to paint your doors, which is something I did previously. You can see my kitchen update on a budget here.

Appliances

The other thing we’re going to consider in this post is appliances. There are so many time saving appliances that have been created for the kitchen, some of which you can purchase freestanding, and some you can get integrated. Look carefully at the price, size and features when purchasing a new refrigerator, oven or dishwasher and compare deals to get the best value possible. This is an area where you can make savings on buying bundles or getting a cashback offer.

For those who want more of a unified, tidy look, integrated is usually a better option as the appliances are hidden behind doors that match your cupboard fronts. But they can cost more and sometimes will mean the appliance has to be a bit smaller to fit.

Hopefully, you have found this article helpful, and now know some of the things that you should be thinking about when it comes to redesigning your kitchen. Of course, there are so many more aspects. My top tips would be measure your kitchen really carefully, have a need list and a would be nice list to hand. Compare quotes and prices and don’t be afraid to ask questions or even haggle! Best of luck with your kitchen redesign and let me know if you need any more tips.
