The living room is one of the best rooms in the house to relax in and we use them for many different reasons. For TV, for gaming, for chilling with friends – the living room or lounge has many uses and we all enjoy spending time in it. However, plenty of people don’t actually know how to arrange their lounge with their furniture in the right places. No matter how you choose to use your living space, there are endless possibilities for you to enjoy the room as is!
Often, people make small mistakes with their furniture placement and not allowing the furniture to serve its purpose. Sure, you can invest in good Oakland Sofas and place them opposite the TV but what if there was a better way to do things? Your furniture placement is going to make a big difference to the mood in the lounge, so making a point of doing this right is important! So, with this in mind, here are some of the things that you should keep in mind when arranging your living room.

- Plan properly. You should consider the fact that your lounge requires some planning if you want to get the furniture placement and décor right. Plan it with an online program to lay out the furniture and see how it’ll look, then use chalk and measure the spaces you have. This way, you can have a good idea of where your furniture should go so you don’t purchase something that won’t fit through the door.
- Consider the use. Are you using the lounge to socialize or to kick back and relax? If it’s for socializing most of the time, you might consider more than one sofa or armchair, and if it’s just to watch TV, you might just want one corner sofa. It’s vital that you consider what you are using your lounge for before you start furnishing it. If you have children in the lounge often, you might not want to put up any antiques, the same can be said for easily cleaning the materials of your sofa and your furniture if there are pets around.
- Invest in good furniture. You might think it’s a good idea to go to IKEA and spend everything on budget, and it is for most things. But if you’re going to have a good sofa, you need to make sure you are spending money on a really good quality one. You are spending at least three hours a day on the sofa before work and after work so you should be able to be as comfortable as possible. You don’t necessarily have to spend thousands and thousands, but it’s a good idea to make sure you are speaking to somebody and testing out the sofa first.
- Think about the lighting. A big mistake people make when they are laying out furniture in their living room is that the sofa placement often sits right in front of the window. But these blocks are a good source of natural light, and if your window has a great view, don’t block it! Lamps and sconces dotted around the room are really going to enhance the area.
