First Impressions: Silentnight Super King Bed With Miraform Mattress

Miraform spring free mattress

One of the benefits of blogging is getting the opportunity from time to time to collaborate with a well known and trusted brand name.  I only work with brands I really like and think you will too!  So when Silentnight got in touch recently to invite me to become one of their brand ambassadors, I was very pleased to accept.

Silentnight is one of those names everyone knows.  They have been around for 70 years so are definitely sleep experts.  Exactly two weeks ago I received a rather large and lovely delivery; this Super King Size bed featuring a Miraform mattress.

Exclusive to the Bensons for Beds Choices collection, you can choose from a range of bases, headboards and fabrics in a contemporary design.  The Miraform mattress is a superior, spring free design which features a layer of Geltex, (a gel-infused comfort layer) that also enables excellent breathability.  The surface of the mattress is covered in tiny ‘teardrop cavities’ designed to create zones of targeted support, perfect spinal alignment and provide the ultimate pressure relief.

Having slept on the bed for a couple of weeks now, my experience of it has been superb.  Having suffered with quite bad sciatica a few weeks ago, even though I am a lot better now, my thigh and ankle still aches and I have some numbness in my foot.  The relief of pressure that the Miraform mattress provides means that I can rest comfortably and it makes turning over in bed onto my side so much easier, as the mattress feels so supportive – it cradles you and moulds to your shape.  Nothing digs in anywhere – it just feels like comfort should!

The mattress comes in Medium, Medium-Firm and Firm.  We opted for Medium-Firm and it is perfect for us – not too soft and not too hard.  The mattress features edge to edge support, so you don’t tend to feel your partner moving – no more squeaky springs, no rolling together in the centre of the bed.

If you’ve only ever had a sprung mattress before, this will feel a lot different to the touch, but that’s good!  It feels dense, yet squishy – when you press down on it and let go, it doesn’t bounce back like a mattress with springs, it gently eases back into shape.

The Miraform mattress has a soft washable cover that incorporates something called Purotex to combat house dust mites.  As you can see below, the mattress sits on a smart divan base.  Although our previous mattress was fairly new, the base we had was over ten years old and the drawers were collapsing, so it was certainly time to replace.  A quick funny story here – one of the bed drawers was always blocked by a set of drawers so we couldn’t use it.  When we moved everything out of the room to get the old bed out and I opened the drawer finally, I found photos and bank statements from ten years ago; it literally was a time capsule in our old bed!

Depending on the divan base and headboard colour you choose, the border of the mattress cover will match for a stunning, co-ordinated look.

We have could have opted for two or four drawers, so went for four to get the maximum storage possible out of the bed:

We plan to redecorate our bedroom soon, hence the various paint colours on the wall!  I chose the lovely Goya headboard which is a classic and contemporary design, in Slate – a fairly light grey.  The fabric has a tactile texture and looks fantastic – especially when compared to our old headboard, which was a chunky brown faux leather one (bought at the time when everyone was into brown leather sofas!)

I must admit I did fleetingly have my eye on the slightly more extravagant looking Trevino headboard, as it looks quite ’boutique hotel’ and romantic, but bearing in mind it has those side wings which widens the bed slightly more – and as a Super King is already pretty wide at 7′ – we can’t sacrifice any more space on each side of the bed, as we need to fit in a couple of night stands, too.

In a future post, I’ll hopefully have progressed a lot with the decorating and I’ll dress the bed so you can see the finished article!

In the meantime, why not check out my video where I talk about some of the reasons I like the Miraform mattress so much.

Lovely to see you on the video! I like that your boys are still not too big to come in for a snuggle from time to time – there’s nothing nicer is there. Lovely bed and I like your choice of headboard, good luck with finding the rest of the bits and pieces you need to finish the room x

Love the choice of headboard. We are planning on changing our bed soon as our current one is nearly ten years old and is looking a little worse for wear. I’m thinking of going for grey this time round. Smashing video too. So lovely to hear your voice after all the online conversations ! xx
