Is Rhinoplasty Right For You?

Photo by Alexander Krivitskiy on Unsplash

There are lots of reasons that people decide to take the plunge and invest in rhinoplasty (also referred to as a nose job). If you’ve been thinking about undergoing this treatment, you might be struggling to make up your mind about whether the surgery is right for you. This blog will help you to make a more informed decision, but don’t forget to talk to your surgeon about your options before booking your appointment. Get in touch with Cadogan Clinic to learn more.

Why do people choose rhinoplasty?

Most people opt to have a nose job because they’re unhappy with the shape of their nose. This could be due to genetics or an injury that has caused their nose to appear crooked. However, other people decide to undergo rhinoplasty to help them breathe better. If you are having difficulties breathing, make sure your surgeon knows this, as it could impact the type of treatment you need.

Who is rhinoplasty for?

Anyone over the age of 16 can have a nose job, as this is when your nose has stopped developing. However, if you have any other existing health conditions, you should always tell your chosen clinic in case they can impact the results of the surgery. It’s also important to really think about what you want out of your treatment. Rhinoplasty can help lots of people to perfect the shape of their nose, but if you want a more comprehensive reconstruction, one surgery might not be enough. In these cases, it’s important to think about associated risks and costs as well.

How long does it take to recover from rhinoplasty?

Like with any surgery, there will be a recovery period following your nose job, which is important to consider. It can take around 2 weeks for the worst of the after-effects to disappear, but it might be 6 months before your nose is completely back to normal. In the first few weeks, you’ll notice bruising and swelling around your nose, but you won’t be able to perform vigorous exercise until weeks after they’ve disappeared. You may also have some trouble breathing as well as discomfort. Rhinoplasty is unlikely to result in any serious side effects, but it’s unwise to have the procedure when you have upcoming events to attend.

When should I have rhinoplasty?

Deciding when to have a nose job is a very personal decision and there’s no right answer. The main thing you need to do before having the procedure is making sure that it’s something that you really want. If you’re feeling unsure, you can discuss your decision with your friends and family, but remember that ultimately it is your choice. Sometimes people are pressured into cosmetic surgery by those around them. To avoid making a decision that you regret, take a step back and really think about what you want.

Remember that there are lots of experts out there who are used to getting questions about nose jobs. Having your concerns addressed by a professional can help you to feel more at ease with your decision.
