New To London: Fun Things To Do In England’s Capital

Photo by Dorina Stati from Pexels

A trip to any new city can be daunting if you are unfamiliar with the local area. The streets are always busy, and it can be hard to find your way around. What’s more, you have to be conservative with your time if you are only there for a brief visit.

These issues are especially true of our capital city, London. There is so much to do in this part of the country, so where do you start? This article will look at all of the things you should do when visiting London for the first time.

See The Sights

One of the main reasons you should visit somewhere new is to see something you have never experienced before. Luckily, London isn’t short on landmarks.

The best part about London’s landmarks; however, is that they are quite centralised in one area. All it takes is a trip to the Embankment, and you can see the millennium bridge, houses of parliament, Big Ben, the River Thames, and the London eye. Furthermore, you can take a trip on the eye to get a birds-eye view of the city and it only takes half an hour to complete.

Of course, there are lots of other landmarks in London. However, the Embankment is the place to go if you are only in the city for a short time.

Take In The Culture

Sightseeing is one thing, but you never truly get a feel for a new place without taking in some of the culture. Everywhere is different, but you will find most of London’s cultural experiences are found in its many museums.

The Tate art gallery, the national science museum, and the national history museum are all within walking distance of each other. The science museum has some fun activities for younger children too. The best part about these museums, though, is the fact that they are all free to enter.

Something For The Family

While the national science museum does have some fun experiences for little kids, there isn’t much in the way of family fun. If you have the time, it is worth a trip to the Tomb Raider Live Experience. This experience is unique to London and can provide you with a family adventure. You may even find it is the perfect reprieve from the crowded streets.

Go Shopping

As with most tourist sights, London is full of souvenir stands and shops that sell branded travel goods. However, there are better places to scratch that shopping itch.

London is home to Oxford Street, a long stretch of road famed for its variety of large department stores. Furthermore, you can also find the biggest shopping mall in England in Shepherds Bush. This mall is full of designer stores and restaurants. If you have the time, it is worth spending a few hours browsing the racks.

Summary

The most important thing you will notice about visiting London is how varied all of the activities are. You might not have time to do it all, so make sure you plan out your trip before heading to London for the first time.
