Space Saving Ideas for Kids’ Bedrooms

A child’s bedroom is quite often the smallest room in the house, so it must work hard at being multi-functional – a space to play, relax and sleep in.

Recently I had a browse of the Italian online boutique, Love The Sign and discovered some fantastic items offering great style and design.   Founded in Milan in 2012, Love The Sign has a wonderfully curated selection of well-designed products for the home.  They love to stock exclusive brands and work from talented designers, so customers always get great products and choice.

I was particularly impressed with the furniture and accessories designed for children as they are extremely practical, without compromising on quality or style.  So I’ve created a little round up of my favourite space saving children’s items from the collection:

Hanging Space

A small bedroom doesn’t always allow space for a wardrobe, so how about this hanging rail as a fantastic alternative:

The Seaside Kids clothes Rail is an authentic Scandinavian design and made of wood.  With no doors to open, it’s a lot more compact than a wardrobe, yet there is ample hanging room and a handy lower shelf for keeping shoes or boxes tidy.  It could even be used as extra storage for dressing up costumes, if that’s your child’s thing!

Toy bag

Playing with toys on the floor is a childhood ritual, but the floor space can quickly become cluttered up and strewn with toys, which is why I love the idea of these toy bags.  The children can open them out and play on the bag’s fabric, then when its time to put the toys away, simply pull up the sides for an instant tidy up.  So simple and effective – especially for things like building bricks and Lego.

Book rack

In a smaller room we should make use of the wall space and this brilliant book rack does just that.  Keeping books on show encourages children to pick them up and read, plus it’s a super way to keep them organised, neat and tidy.

Multi-functional Beds

It makes sense to choose a versatile bed that gives you options.  For example for little ones, you could get a cot that turns into a toddler bed and for older kids, having a bed with a trundle underneath for sleepovers, or a bed with desk combo are really great space saving solutions.

Double Duty Items

I love the idea of practical things that also make a statement in a room which is why this brilliant shelves work as a piece of wall art as well as a storage item.

So as you can see, there are some really clever kids furniture designs at Love The Sign.  Just because children are small and young there’s no need to compromise on style or substance.  When well made, like the furniture items shown above, they can last for years and manage to stand up to the rigours of family life!

All of these items look fabulous Antonia. Most moms are dying to get such space saving ideas and this doesn’t happen only when they have small space but more than one child too. I would also like to just chip in my idea of folding tables and chairs and how easy they are to store and use!
