Tips for getting your kitchen renovated on a budget

A modern and well-equipped kitchen is the soul of the house. It serves all cooking and storage needs. This means the kitchen should look good and smart. As costly as they may seem, kitchen renovations can actually be done on a small budget. This does not mean using low-quality materials. You can save if you plan carefully and do it well.

Here is a guide to renovate your kitchen without blowing the budget:

Plan in advance

This is the first step towards a successful kitchen renovation. Set a realistic budget in advance and decide on when to carry out the renovation. The plan should include all costs which will be incurred during the whole project. Have an itemised price list for all things you are planning to buy, so there are no hidden surprises.

Have some contingency budget in place to cover any unexpected costs as hardly any renovation ever goes totally to plan.

Invest in new light fixtures

Kitchen renovations require creative changes for maximum impact. You can start by changing the lighting system which has the potential to completely change the look and feel of the kitchen. Fancy lights make a statement and add a decorative feature to your kitchen. Adjustable lights are a nice idea to create a different ambience depending on the time of day or night.

Replace kitchen worktops

When renovating your kitchen on a budget you need to prioritize carefully. For example, do you want to invest in a fancy stone or marble worktop, or would you prefer to buy a really nice budget worktop and use that extra cash saved to improve your kitchen elsewhere? The cost of a new kitchen worktop can vary depending on the material you are looking for. Always shop around to find the best deal possible.

Change the layout

Sometimes a simple idea can be really effective, so you could move items around to create a new look in your kitchen. Your sink, cooker or fridge may work better in a different location, but remember that changing pipework incurs extra cost. Simply moving the fridge or microwave and kettle can create a fresh look without having to spend a penny.

Fit your own flooring

Some home renovations are easy to do on your own, requiring only fairly basic DIY know-how. If you want to save money, this is the best way. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube to help you learn to tile floors or lay vinyl and other surfaces down. Be bold, have a go! You’ll be so satisfied in the end.

Good luck with your kitchen renovations!
