Top Tips For Cleaning Your Rental When You Move

Are you moving out of your lease? Is your landlord selling your property? Great, that means you’re in the race for one of the most stressful periods of your life. Well, we’re only joking. Moving to a new property is going to be difficult, but if you get organised early it doesn’t have to be the most stressful part of your life. One of the biggest jobs that you have when it comes to moving into a new property is cleaning your old one before you go.

While you’re making your lists and planning your move, you’ll think about the removals company that you plan to use, and most of these companies will now pack your things for you, load them onto the truck and off they go. There are many other things that a removals company can do, and one of those is recommending cleaning companies to help you to clean your rental. If you want to get your deposit back from your landlord that you paid when you first moved in, you need to make sure that your rental is in tiptop condition. Here are some tips to help you get it back:

  • Make a list of things for repair. Wear and tear is natural and happens over time when you’re living in a property. However, there items that you might end up breaking by accident, or paint that you might chip when you brush past it, or kitchen cabinets that may need a screwdriver and a new hinge. Before you start cleaning you need to check and repair things. You wouldn’t clean the walls if there are holes in them, you have to fill the hole first.
  • Hire a cleaner. The biggest and best tip you will ever need is hiring a cleaner to do a professional clean before you hand the keys back to the landlord. Do you really have the time to clean the kitchen thoroughly, while also trying to do the windows, mop the floors, and even get into the fans? The likelihood is that you don’t have the time. You’re not alone in that though, as many tenants tend to call a professional cleaning company to get in and get the cleaning done before they hand the keys back.
  • Give yourself plenty of time. If you don’t have the budget to be able to hire a professional cleaner, then you need to get it done yourself and that means you need to give yourself the time to do it. Cleaning for an inspection is actually a bigger clean than you think it is. You need to give yourself the time to get it right so that you can make all of the right moves and ensure that your home is completely clean. This will help you to get your deposit back.
  • Don’t forget the carpets and the walls. Yes, you read that right. You need to hire a professional carpet cleaner to get the carpets done, and you need to use a sugar soap and water solution to clean the walls down without damaging the paint. These are essentials if you want to handle it right and ready to go when you give the keys back to the landlord.
