Why a Loft Conversion is a Great Idea

One of the best property improvements that you could make for your home’s original space is a loft conversion. It turns your empty loft space into a fully operational and additional habitable floor for your family to utilise. If you’ve considered any home renovations in the past, you may have wondered whether or not a loft conversion is the best option for your home, and you’re probably.

There are so many different types of loft conversions out there that there are options for you to choose from. We’ve put together a list of reasons why a loft conversion could be the best idea for you this year.

  • You’re going to increase your living space. If you’re living in a busy household with plenty of family members, you’re going to notice how your home can feel quite packed in and suffocating when there is a lack of space. Everything feels constrained, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The average home in the UK is now 20% smaller compared to houses in the 1970s, which means you’re going to notice this more than anyone if you have a family or you’ve got young children running around. A lack of habitable space is a great reason why householders either build a basement or they go for a loft conversion.
  • You may not need to go for planning permission. Home alterations often require planning permission, especially where extensions are involved. If you do have permitted development allowance, you can carry out a loft conversion without planning permission, but it is subject to several conditions and it’s always worth checking. The last thing that you want to do is convert your loft without any kind of formal permission, only to find out you have to revert it back to its original state, because you weren’t supposed to do that in the first place.
  • It can be energy efficient. Another great reason to choose a loft conversion is because of their energy efficient design. There are plenty of rooms within a property that can be blocked by the elements, such as large buildings or trees. If the weather becomes dim or cloudy, you may need artificial lighting to illuminate the home and that will add to your electricity bill. Because your loft can feel the heat as it rises from the house, you may not need to install proper heaters to the top. You can keep it as energy efficient as you like.
  • There are many options. Loft conversions are available in a range of different styles, which means that you can choose Velux conversions or you can choose options such as donor conversions. Having these options can really help you to determine how you could use your new loft conversion space and what you could use it for.

The housing market is packed with properties and if you want to find one with an existing loft, you can do that! You can even add to your existing house to improve it.
