Why plantation shutters are a must-have in your home!

Are you looking for some way of revamping your home interior? Changing your window treatment and upgrading to window shutters will be the transformation you’ve been waiting for. You’ll be amazed at how fabulous they look, but the practical benefits they offer are extraordinary!

On today’s blog, we’re taking a look at why plantation shutters make a great choice to cover your windows. It’s no secret that they look stunning from the outside, but once they’re installed, what are the other benefits of installing shutters in your home?

Plantation shutters

 Interior shutters

Interior shutters are often available in a wide variety of colours and crafted from a selection of materials – from beautifully genuine wooden shutters to waterproof polyvinyl ones, and you can even find MDF shutters. With so much choice, plantation shutters make a great versatile product, and they’ll work well in any room of your home.

You can find a style of shutter that best suits what you’re looking for in a window treatment. Full-height shutters cover the entirety of the window – a very popular choice. Café-style shutters only cover the bottom half of your window, oozing Parisian vibes. They are often chosen for kitchens or bathrooms – rooms where privacy is key. Tier-on-tier shutters are divided into top and bottom panels, and each can be opened independently of the other. Louvered or solid panels both have their benefits, and each style works well with different home décor themes.

 Control your privacy

We value our own privacy, so it makes sense to opt for a window covering that puts privacy control in your hands. It’s often the case with street-facing rooms that you have passers-by peering in. Window shutters can help protect you and your family’s privacy, and there’s no need to sacrifice the light or air flow.

Café-style shutters are often a smart choice for any room that requires attention for privacy, such as your bathroom or living room. The bottom half of the window is covered, so if you’re in your bathroom, you can make sure that no peeping toms are peering in. By keeping the top half of the window uncovered, the room can benefit from more natural light. It also doesn’t look unwelcoming from the outside and can help the exterior of your home look as fantastic as the interior.

 Easy-maintenance shutters

Looking after your shutters is simple and requires minimal effort. Once they’re installed, you can keep them looking their best by simply wiping them down with a damp cloth. Of course, it depends on the material you choose, but quality is key when choosing window shutters – find premium quality ones, maintain them, and they’ll stand the test of time.

There’s no need to stock up on harsh chemicals. You can easily keep on top of the cleanliness, reducing dust and mould build-up – a firm favourite benefit among anyone who suffers with airborne allergies.

 Shutters for the right environment

Shutters can have a long life when looked after properly. Consider the environment where you’d like them, as where they are fitted can often be a key factor in terms of maintaining a beautiful set of window shutters. If you’re fitting shutters in rooms such as the bathroom or kitchen, then a set of polywood shutters would be a better choice as they’ll survive the humidity. It’s also important to remember that high-quality materials will last longer, and you won’t have to worry about the interior shutters warping.

 Brighten your interior

Let’s look at the key benefits that solid panel and louvered styles can offer. Louvered shutters are made up of slats that can be easily angled either up or down. By adjusting the slats, you can control the amount of light that enters the room.

With solid panel shutters, you can open them up and expose the whole window. However, at night when your plantation shutters are closed, they block the light from the outside and you can enjoy a disturbance-free night of sleep – whether you’re early or late to bed! Both styles are an ideal way of brightening up your room.

 Window shutters

Windows of all shapes

Housing styles come in all difference shapes and sizes, and this will consequently result in weird and wonderful-shaped windows. A quirky-shaped window can often be challenging to shop for.

With most curtains and blinds, they will only fit in one way, suiting mainly a rectangular shape. Shop around and you’ll find shutter specialists that will craft a set of plantation shutters to your window measurements. As these types of shutters are custom-made to measure, any of the odd-shaped windows in your home can be beautifully covered.

 Important to remember

There’s no denying it, plantation shutters look amazing, but I think we can all agree that there are plenty of other benefits that make them an essential in our homes. Enjoy the journey of finding the right set of shutters for your home!
