Whether you are sunbathing in the garden or holidaying abroad, I thought today I’d share my 6 favourite summer beauty essentials and why I love them so much:
Dove Summer Revived Body Lotion
I’ve been applying this Dove Summer Revived Body Lotion after a shower for a few weeks and it’s ideal for giving a tanned glow on pale skin like mine. I use the fair to medium, but there is a medium to dark version, too. It doesn’t smell bad and leaves my skin smooth and moisturised, plus it’s around £3.50 to buy so really great value. This tanner seems more forgiving of any errors because you can build it up gradually and it is literally the only one I’ve tried that hasn’t gone streaky on me.
Lee Stafford Coco Loco Blow & Go Genius Lotion
Don’t you just love coconut scented products in the summer? I forgot to take my normal conditioner on holiday, but luckily had a tube of this Coco Loco Blow & Go with me and it was perfect for massaging into my damp hair after towel drying. You don’t rinse it out and it left my hair soft, tousled and smelling great.
Shellac or Gel Nails
A must have before you jet off. Normal nail polish just doesn’t withstand the sand, sea and pool, whereas a longlasting mani will stay looking good ’til the end of your hols. And I find that having them done again when you get home prolongs that holiday feeling a bit! I prefer to go to a salon, but I also have a home kit which is pretty good when I want to save some pennies. I can do my fingernails in about half an hour now. It’s great for toenails as well of course. I bought this great value starter kit at Boots from Sensationail.
Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Eyeliner
The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil is always one of the best rated waterproof eyeliners and its great because its goes on nicely – the consistency is smooth and creamy, and you have about a minute to work it before it ‘sets’ – brilliant long lasting performance. If like me you love a smoky eye, this one will stay in place even on your upper or lower waterline, which lets face it looks super sexy. £15.50 to buy and you can get it in all the department stores.
Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara
I’ve tried lots of different mascaras over the years, but always come back to Maybelline Great Lash as it seems to bring out the best in my lashes, keeping them looking natural but dramatic and it is such a good price. I don’t normally buy waterproof mascara, but did buy this one for my hols and it worked a treat so I’m continuing to use it – it was also voted the No. 1 waterproof mascara by Good Housekeeping.com last year.
Eyebrow tint
This is something I tried recently for the first time, it was actually on my return from hols, but I would definitely recommend having yours tinted at a salon before you go away – and a little waxing below your brow makes applying eyeshadow smoothly a dream. You can even get a little trim if your brows are long to keep them super tidy! Mine looked so neat and natural afterwards and I didn’t need any eyebrow products at all for a few weeks. It was so cool waking up with good brows and not having to do a thing with them or worry about brow make-up smudging or running in the heat. I’m a total convert and going to book again soon.
