It’s not every day an opportunity to experience life in the ‘Matalan Home’ comes along, so I hope you enjoy all the photos and video below, as we all love a good house tour, don’t we?
In case you hadn’t heard about the Matalan Home until now, a number of journalists, stylists, editors and bloggers were invited at different times to spend a couple of relaxing days in the Cotswolds, in a stunning cottage that became the Matalan Home for the summer. Styled with Matalan homeware, it was a chance to ‘road test’ the products – so, eating off Matalan crockery, sleeping in Matalan bedding, relaxing with Matalan cushions and throws – all in beautiful, inspiring surroundings. What a treat! Especially for an interiors enthusiast like me (and my family were just as keen to come along and enjoy the whole thing of course!).
First impressions of the house exceeded our expectations, it was jaw-droppingly pretty and packed with charm and character. The date over the door said 1845 and the big front door (painted in the exact pantone shade of Matalan red) was a welcoming sight after our drive down to Wiltshire from Manchester.
We stepped into a large reception area with a fireplace and pretty window seat.
To our left was a huge L-shaped living room where the boys got down to snuggling with soft throws on the gorgeous squashy sofa…
To the right was a large playroom with toys, dressing up clothes and a chalkboard wall.
Straight ahead we discovered a ‘boot room’ / laundry room…
Then finally the welcoming kitchen diner.
Outside we spied a beautiful garden with fields beyond.
Upstairs, the first bedroom, a double, had a coastal feel…
There was a bathroom across the landing with the same nautical style…
Next door to that was a double bedroom that my eldest son claimed…
Because he really liked its en suite bathroom and I can’t blame him…
There was another bedroom with a single cabin style bed and a quirky door!
and finally the fourth bedroom we encountered was the stunning master suite, with a huge sleigh style bed adorned with gorgeous yellow and grey Matalan cushions, an oak beam and enormous, chunky mirror…
But that wasn’t all, check out the spa style shower / dressing room. Um, wow!!!
I had to sit down in the kitchen with a cuppa to calm my excitement, where we discovered a further lovely surprise… Matalan, you really spoiled us!
We wandered around the garden, taking it all in and knowing we were going to spend a lovely couple of days at the house with our boys. While we were ther we also checked out the local area and felt totally relaxed by the end of our very comfortable stay.
There were so many nice homeware items in the house, I picked out some of my favourites…
1. Natural placemat £2 / 2. Hanging circular mirror £15 / 3. French text towels £5 – £7 / 4. Lidded laundry basket £10 / 5. Mayfair Duvet Set £35 / 6. Chunky knitted throw £50 / 7. Jute Boucle Rug £15 / 8. Wooden candlestick £8 / 9. Hand knitted cushion £18
I liked how the hanging circular mirrors were paired in one of the bathrooms…
And the white bedding with a silver ribbon detail in the main bedroom was really gorgeous to look at and sleep on – called the Mayfair duvet set, it really felt like boutique hotel standard – and the chunky, hand knitted cushions were fabulous, too – weighty and great quality.
And if you fancy seeing a bit more of the Matalan Home, check out my video and I’d like to say a big thank you to Matalan for having us – same time next year ?! 😉
