The nights are staying lighter for longer and all the blossom is out – a sure sign that spring is here and summer just a whisper away. I really hope we have another great run of sunshine, as we did last year. I’ve already worked out what my wardrobe staples will be – I’m a simple soul style-wise, so it will be cool and comfy dresses, vests and midi skirts, tees and shorts or jeans with sandals and trainers on rotation.
So when Marks & Spencer invited me to take a look at their linen collection for this season, I was delighted as I have always been a fan of linen shirts, t-shirts and shorts. Linen is pretty timeless really, isn’t it? Yes, it creases, but I’m ok with that. It’s a fabric that we forgive for looking a little crumpled; however with plenty of linen blends on the market, there are more ‘easy wear’ options than ever to choose from.
I had a look online but also popped in-store for a closer look. There was a lovely big section of linenwear all together, so it was easy to browse. It made me want to pack a suitcase and go on holiday!
It’s a nicely co-ordinated edit, with plenty of options to mix and match. Classic linen shirts, blazers, linen rich shorts, shift dresses, jumpsuits and wide leg trousers, in a range of colours and patterns.
I honed in on this lovely leopard print skirt.
As we know, leopard is practically a neutral these days! You really can’t go wrong with a bit of animal print and I like this one as it’s kind of muted and smudgy. I also love the drop waist which I find flattering. If you’re taller this is going to end at mid-calf length, but as I’m 5’3″ it’s kind of ankle skimming on me, but nevertheless I like this length. (It’s not down to the floor which is good!)
With a button down front and a little elastic at the back of the waist, it feels lovely on. Just enough swish, but it’s not going to fly over your head in a gust of wind either! It’s soft to the touch, too, and doesn’t appear to scrunch up and crease as much as pure linen would.
What to team it with though? Normally I would probably go for a simple black vest, but this cute ‘Muse’ tee caught my eye at M&S. Slogan tees have become such a huge trend! If the weather isn’t allowing for short or no sleeves, then a slogan sweatshirt is also a good option – I think something like this survey corps hoodie would look great combined with the skirt and white sneakers for a casual look.
With the word ‘Muse’ on the front it is playful and super easy to wear, again in a comfy linen mix. The colour is creamy/off-white with complimentary spicy tones in the embroidery.
Overall this is such a comfy, wearable outfit for any day. You can dress it up a bit with some jewellery and heeled sandals, or keep it low key with trainers.
A great every day combo for spring/summer that will keep you cool and this will definitely be a favourite outfit for me in the coming weeks!
You can shop the M&S linen edit here. Certain items are on special offer for the bank holiday weekend! Spend over £25 and save £5 (including the leopard print skirt).
The skirt and t-shirt were gifted, however all words and opinions are genuine and my own. Post contains some affiliate links.
